The Institute for Global/Local Action & Study (IGLAS) prepares Pitzer students to become “engaged, socially responsible citizens of the world” by infusing global/local issues in a robust, sequential curriculum that cultivates intercultural literacy and engaged learning throughout students’ academic careers.

Our Curriculum

Faculty-led curricular innovation combines:

  • The study of globalization and its impacts
  • Learning and scholarship focused on questions of social justice
  • Sustained engagement with communities near and far

Our Objectives

  • Ensure that global/local action and study are a part of students’ intellectual and psychosocial development.
  • Promote curricular innovation focused on global/local themes. We strive to integrate high-impact educational practices, such as immersive study abroad and community engagement, into all fields of study.
  • Provide opportunities for faculty professional development on global/local themes about:
    • Student mentorship
    • Course development
    • Research projects
  • Enhance Pitzer’s institutional capacity in global/local action and study through:
    • Leadership. We combine the director position with an endowed academic chair and an associate deanship.
    • Bringing more resources to the College.
